School Council 2016-2017
Creating an environment in which we ‘CARE’
Consider and respect everyone as Jesus taught us
Badsworth CE (VC) J & I school strives to give everyone the support they need. At our school everyone is treated fairly and with equality. Our aim in school is to create an environment in which we CARE as Jesus taught us.
There are many rewards to celebrate your child’s achievements such as:
‘The Golden Book’ – if your child’s teacher feels they have really excelled in their learning during a particular week they will be nominated in ‘The Golden Book’ but if they really stood out they will get a special Badsworth certificate to keep forever. Every child nominated will get a ‘special Headteacher Award sticker.’
‘The Brilliant Behaviour Book’. If a child is nominated by either a member of staff or another pupil, they are rewarded in the Achievement Assembly and by sitting at top table and eating lunch with the Headteacher, Mrs Jones.
Certificates of achievement are awarded for such things as swimming, progressing onto pen and completing the levels on the Lexia reading programme.
Spotters are also given to children by teachers and other members of staff. Spotter stickers are given when children have been ‘spotted’ for setting a good example to others in a variety of ways – e.g., good manners, kindness, helping others etc. Every child has a spotter chart where they collect their spotters and when they get a certain amount they will get a ‘spotter prize’. These include: 25 spotters – a pencil, 100 spotters – a pencil sharpener, 200 spotters – a pen, 300 spotters – a bookmark, 500 spotter – a pencil case.
Our lessons at Badsworth always end with your child understanding what they have just learned in our curriculum. They are fun but still educational and will result in your child having a bright and successful future.
At break times there are various activities to take part in. For example, Fitbods, basketball, football in the summer, activity trail, playground games and many more. Buddies watch over the playgrounds encouraging pupils to interact with other children and we hope this will encourage children to care for one another, which is a valuable life skill. The buddies are a first resort instead of a teacher. In class we have suggestion boxes so the children have a voice and to show that their opinion matters.
Our School Council helps to make some decisions around school to make school life the best it can be. We also help at Parents Evenings and other events. In addition, we feel that it is our role to be responsible and set a good example to our younger children. Every year as a school we raise money for charities such as The British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, Children in Need and Comic Relief. We also raise money for FOBS (Friends of Badsworth School) through dress down days which are often themed, supporting film nights and competitions.
We attend our church, St Mary’s, many times throughout the year for special celebrations and services – Harvest, Remembrance Day, Christingle, Epiphany, Easter etc.
Overall, Badsworth School is an outstanding place to learn and make new friends. We are sure your child will feel welcome and safe every time they pass through our gate.
